Ágúst Bjarnason


Painter of Cityscape

Ágúst Bjarnason is born in Reykjavík 1956. He spent his childhood in Kópavogur before moving back to Reykjavík where he has been living ever since except for the seven years he spent in Stockholm.

Ágúst studied at the Schoool of Art and Handicraft of Iceland and graduated from the department of graphics in 1986. At Stockholm University he studied mostly art history an took some courses in philosophy and medieval literature at the University of Iceland.

Ágúst has been working in art since 1980. His favorite fields are drawing, copperplate engraving and painting in watercolors but he has been focusing lately on lino-cutting. He also has illustrated books, designed covers and done some storyboard work for the cinema. His main subjects have been Reykjavík and surroundings, people and seamanship.

Ágúst has held a couple of private exhibitions an taken part in numerous collective ones in Iceland and abroad. He is a member of "The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists" (SÍM).
