Blue Lagoon Iceland

A Unique Geothermal Spa

Blue Lagoon Iceland is truly a one-of-a-kind. Situated in the middle of a large lava field and created by geothermal seawater. The hot water comes from holes as deep as 2000 meters/6000 feet and is used to fill the natural spa with warm and comfortable water but is also used for powering the nearby natural energy station.

We decided to take the day off and just enjoy the nice and refreshing place.

Blue Lagoon is only half an hour from Reykjavík (and 20 minutes from Keflavík airport).

Driving the road that leads to the Blue Lagoon you notice the overflow of water and the amazing deep blue color.

The path to the entrance gives the promise of things to come. It has been carved into the lava and the winding shape lets you wait in anticipation for the things to come.

The spa itself is architected in a way that makes the facilities blend perfectly with the natural environment of the lava and the mineral rich water. The place is somehow like nowhere else on earth. Reminds me of a scene from Star Wars!

The water is loaded with minerals that fall out and make the strange white coating you can see on the rough lava rocks. The ingredients are silica mud, mineral salts as well as the blue green algae that gives the Blue Lagoon its color.

This man made waterfall makes for the most powerful and energizing massage!

It is easy to find your special spot. If you like to be alone you can find a quiet place to be alone or to chat with a friend.

The silica mud is everywhere and works wonders for your skin...

...the experience is of a relaxing and a timeless kind.

Leaving we spot this huge 6x6 reminding us of the great ice-caps and glaciers that await us in the 4x4 off roads...

This has been a great day and we are lucky to have such a place to nourish mind, body and soul.

If you come and visit Iceland, even for a short while, be sure to spend a couple of hours at the Blue Lagoon.
