Álfheiður Ólafsdóttir
A painter of nature and myth
Álfheiður Ólafsdóttir was born and raised in a farm in Fljótshlíð in the South-Iceland where the legend of trolls and elves and Vikings is still strong. Her paintings are strong
in colors and have a mythical atmosphere. The theme of Ólafsdóttir's exhibition
is elves and trolls from folk tales. She was raised in the east
Icelandic countryside and the closeness to nature and folk belief
influenced her as a painter, as described in a press release. "I'm going to leave it to visitors to
create the stories behind my paintings, so everyone can see them
with their own eyes," Ólafsdóttir added. Ólafsdóttir exhibited her folk story paintings in Akranes, west Iceland, last summer, which was especially popular among the younger generations. The artist welcomed the young visitors dressed as a fairy and told them tales of the hidden world. Ólafsdóttir has been doing graphic design and painting for the last seventeen years. She graduated from the Art and crafts
school of Iceland in 1990. Since then she has held many private
shows. In 2000 she released a children's book titled, Grímur og
Sækýrnar. Private Exhibitions: 2007 - Geysir, Bistro Bar -
Reykjavík Group Exhibitions: 2006 - Mublan - Kópavogi
