María Jónsdóttir
Glass Sculptures

María Jónsdóttir
is born in 1958. She has a BA degree as a textile designer
and graduated from Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2000. For some period of time she
took interest in sculpture-making which can partly be viewed here on
this website as well as in our gallery.
From the beginning
of the year 2006 she has been a freelance textile designer, emphasizing
in pattern design and tailored work for interiors.
"My sculptures
consist of units that can be viewed both separately and as larger
composite pieces. For the pyramids, the mountain "Keilir" at
Reykjanes is a parallel natural phenomenon. The works "Facing in"
are inspired by geothermal areas in Iceland, whose openings into the
earth invite inspection. Their reference to feminine elements is
juxtaposed with the masculine aspect of the other works."
The sculptures are
made in limited, numbered editions.
